So who are CMC and where did we come from?

Who are we

CMC was formed in 2007 by Mike Wood. Mike spent the first 10 years of his career working for large Main Contractors before moving over to a Client side practice. During the next couple of years Mike broadened his experience, being involved in early feasibility work, construction dispute resolution and general PQS cost consulting. CMC is now run and managed by both Mike Wood and James Washbrook who between them have over 40 years of experience in property and construction. Key to the success of CMC is the staff that they employ, however all projects delivered by CMC are directed by either James or Mike to ensure that a high standard of service is delivered to each and every Client.

We understand

Our combined mix of both Developer and Contractor experience has given us the edge over many competitors in that we understand the needs of both. Because of our background we have continued to serve both sides. Our work with Contractors means we are constantly in touch with the market and live market rates; thus allowing us to advise Developer Clients with real time costs, which in today’s volatile market is essential.

Today and the future

We have focused our services to ensure we remain experts in our field. Most of our work is now and will continue to be Client side, but with enough Main Contractor work to ensure that we remain in touch with the market. Our Client base is now much larger, and is centred around our expertise in sectors such as Hotels, Residential (incl. Super prime), Commercial, Health, and Retail. Over the next 5 to 10 years we aim to continue to steadily grow, building on our experience in the sectors noted above.

Mike Wood

Mike started his career following successfully completing his degree in Quantity Surveying at the University of Greenwich. His career started with French Kier Anglia (part of the Kier Group), before joining Wates Construction; then followed by a period overseas. After his overseas experience, Mike joined a private practice experiencing for the first time the client side of being a Quantity Surveyor; but also then gained some experience in project management. Eventually in 2007 Mike decided to go it alone and set up his QS and PM construction consultancy offering project management and quantity surveying services to both clients and contractors. His consultancy is still going strong and is testament to his aptitude and ability.

James Washbrook

The early part of James' career was spent predominantly with major contractors, such as ISG, Vinci, and McLaren Construction. However, since 2012 James has focused on providing developer side services to our end user Clients. His wealth of experience, spans many sectors of the construction industry; including super prime residential, rail, light industrial, and commercial new build and fitout. James has been with CMC since its commencement in 2007, and is now a Director and Shareholder, and works closely with Mike to ensure that CMC delivers the highest standard of service to each and every Client.

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying

Interests: Football, Golf, Sports Generally

Ambition: To explore the Far East
