Construction Management Consulting were initially engaged by McLaren Construction Ltd to assist them in negotiating the contract to build The Westwood Retail Park project for Hammerson Plc. Following the successful award of the Contract to McLaren Construction Ltd our engagement was extended to include the provision of the full on site commercial services for the project.

The scheme involved the demolition of an existing unused retail park and the construction of a new three unit building and formation of a new service yard. The building was constructed using a portal steel frame with the envelope comprising of a combination of composite cladding and brick/blockwork cavity wall. The external finishing works included the re-configuration of the existing car park, the creation of escalating feature steps to the adjacent retail park and a Section 278 highway works package.

CMC also added value during the design of the new external layout by carrying out the full onsite cut and fill measurement exercise resulting in re-use of a substantial amount of existing onsite material and in doing so reducing the cost and amount of waste generated.

With CMC’s help the project was completed 5 weeks earlier than the contract programme completion date and to the target budget, exceeding the client’s expectations.
